lover's discourse

In My Dream Last Night You were Always Leaving

In this one you are laying next to me on the bed and you are asleep and I hold my breath so you do not realize that I am here still (even if you invited me to be) and I kiss a strand of your hair so light you would never feel it. What I mean to say is I’ve been raised to keep at the edge of my seat ready to run when the scene gets dirty ready to hit the ground as soon as I am offered the end slice of bread—ready to have it snatched out of my hand. I repeat what I didn’t get to say to every day so I leave nothing out if it is the last time; When you kiss me I try to remember every detail every molecule on your face in case I need to remember the taste for my last meal & In my sleep I dream of you carving my heart out with a blade and I die in the certainty of you loving me enough to dirty your hands with my insides. In this one I work up the courage to kiss your cheek and your skin is warm and soft that I forget that I am dreaming. In this one I wake up out of breath already trying to keep you close to me for just one more second than allotted by the merciful unconsciousness. In this one I trace your sleeping figure & pour out confessions again and again and again. In this one I hold my breath when you wake up and oh look there you are again and I pray that you still want to look my way.
